"These paintings serve not only as visual records of transplanted flowers but also as artistic creations that preserve the beauty and vitality of flowers permanently."

The Emperors’ Moving Gardens: Flowers Paintings From The Qing Dynasty Court is an exhibition that showcases the exquisite depictions of exotic flora by Qing Dynasty court artists. The vast Qing Dynasty territory, spanning from temperate to tropical regions, brought a diverse range of flora to the court, making these floral paintings rich in variety.

With the design intent to emphasise a multi-sensory experience through sight, smell, and touch, we recreated authentic Qing Dynasty garden scenes, with large-scale floral landscapes complementing the artworks. These dynamic floral displays were strategically placed to enliven the space and draw visitors into the exhibition.

"Although flowers may bloom briefly, in the hands of the artist, they blossom eternally."

To enhance the sensory journey, we perfumed the site with fragrances of Peony, Lotus, Chrysanthemum, and Plum Blossom—allowing visitors to discover their own floral scent through interactive psychometric games. Tactile elements were introduced through incorporating various paper types, inviting visitors to physically engage with the textures of the painting and calligraphy mediums.

The overall design seamlessly connected fragmented exhibition spaces with floral materials and three-dimensional flower platforms, transforming the corridors into vibrant passages that linked the exhibits and recreated the essence of a Qing Dynasty greenhouse. This thoughtful design and build of SPACElogic Taiwan ensured that visitors were not just observers but participants in a living, breathing garden of imperial China.
